| The Water Cooler is a place where we can gather for casual conversation, gossip, or... whatever: you choose. And even if there's no one here, you can still mutter aloud to yourself. Sometimes it feels good just to note down your own thoughts or opinion or questions. Just add them here. You can either edit the page or (more simply) type your comments in the text box near the bottom of the page. When you press the Add Comment button, your text will be added to the page with your signature automatically included. Bring any topic you'd like, off-topic discussions are welcome too. Start a new thread or make a comment at the bottom of any existing thread using one of the comment boxes. When things justify it, refactor a thread into a separate topic. |

Job Situation Across The World?

So, considering the way Germany society here goes downhill I'm wondering where it might be opportune to spend (at least a significant part of) the rest of my life.
How is the economy wherever you live and what do you think of the current situation?

- Your first consideration is whether you wish to change professions! Information Security is interesting and challenging but also can be equally challenging when it comes to employment no matter where you go. Unfortunately the focus has become one of compartmentilization. If the statistics were properly parsed it is likely that more than 50% of the purported information security jobs are rather technical jobs in networking and other sectors with an emphasis on information security.
Having said that, from a social perspective my perception is that North America is a good target. The Far and Middle East is quite challenging for non-natives and does not bode well in the long range for non-natives. Europe is still in a great state of flux with the European Union. There may be exceptions within the European sector just as there are exceptions within the North American market.
Being aware that so many of the purported information security jobs are mis-classified I think that North America is your best target. --

- Interesting thought. I've moved to the US in 2001 (from Argentina) and while the first few years werent easy I am starting to see some progress. Now, 4 years might be too much for some people... I don't know. There were two other places that I considered along the US, they are: Canada and Australia. -- DonaldGlass - 28 Jul 2005 28 Jul 2005 - 08:51
- I think it becomes more than just what country to relocate to, but what part of what country. Besides having a wide variance in job oppertunities the US also offers a wide variance in climate and society. New England, for an example, is knows for it's conservative population and it's unpredictable weather. The south for it's heat and laid back attitude... and so on. I'm sure you can find hot spots for jobs most anywhere, but be careful of where in the US (for example) you think about moving to. -- JimCusson - 28 Jul 2005 28 Jul 2005 - 13:14
- I don't think the job should really be your first consideration. Although it is important, if you have got a family your first priority might be: "do I want my children to grow up in this society". There are immense differences. -- BrigitteGrieger - 05 Sep 2005 05 Sep 2005 - 09:46

New Topic: Access Control architecture

I want to discuss some issues about application architectures that will permit access controls based directly on business rules. What a concept, eh?
Oh yeah: it's called
RelationshipAccessControls.

- Brian, what's your motive? Is this something you're just interested in or are you working on a live project maybe? -- NoticeBored - 18 Aug 2005 18 Aug 2005 - 09:30
- Brian, Depends on what application you are after. Some do a better job then others... -- JohnNicholas - 18 Aug 2005 18 Aug 2005 - 18:55
